KOHERAS increases shareholding in LG-Laser Technologies GmbH

As from 31 January 2005, KOHERAS increased its shareholding in the German company LG-Laser Technologies GmbH (LG) from 51% to 86%. The remaining 14% of the shares are held by the company's management. With this investment, KOHERAS exercised its option to acquire up to 86% of LG's shares under an agreement entered into in May 2004 when KOHERAS took a stake in the German company.

KOHERAS, which designs, manufactures and markets advanced laser units and high-power fibre laser systems for industrial application is committed to establishing a position as a foremost supplier of fibre laser products to the global market. The company, which started operations in 1997, is based in Birkerød, north of Copenhagen – in the centre set up by NKT to house its photonics businesses.

By acquiring the majority shareholding in the Bavarian company LG-Laser Technologies based in Kleinostheim, KOHERAS in 2004 significantly expanded its product range and gained access to the German market, which is characterised by a strong demand for laser products for industrial application. The KOHERAS Group can now offer diode lasers, DPSS lasers, Ar lasers, HeNe lasers and fibre lasers.

With the acquisition of a further 35% shareholding in LG, the foundation is now in place for establishment of closer interaction between the Danish and German companies.

Focus on the commercial market
Through 2003 and 2004, KOHERAS focused on expanding its laser technology into areas where a commercial demand can be established for the company's advanced products. For example, KOHERAS primarily addresses sectors which have potential as commercial users of laser products – such as the LIDAR segment (wind speed measurement), product labelling, and measuring and monitoring equipment. At LG, focus is directed at the engineering industry, printing, medical technology, and measuring and analysing equipment.
